Hard to believe Denzel Washington is an alcoholic pilot, scheduled to fly the next day, after a night of heavy drinking and drugs. When we
first see Whip Whitaker, (Denzel Washington) he is waking up in a hotel room, wasted, naked, in bed with a flight attendant. He awakes, takes a line of cocaine, and appears perfectly capable to fly a commercial airline, with 102 people aboard, in spite of cialis online little sleep.
Soon upon take off they encounter a violent rainstorm, accompanied by amazing turbulence, frightening the crew and passengers. Whip immediately goes into ‘pilot’ mode, issuing orders to co-pilot and the attendants. Whip successfully lands the plane, flying the plane up side down. With only 4 deaths, and for saving so many lives, Whip becomes a hero, (e.g. Capt
Sully, landing on the Hudson river).
A federal investigation begun when Whip’s blood test proved he was flying drunk. The investigation was to determine who was at fault, and what really happened on the plane. Whip reported, the plane faulty, the plane had a mechanical problem.
This movie dealt with much more than Whip’s ability to safely land a malfunctioning plane. The investigation was the heart of the movie. It changed Whip’s thinking, from his drug and alcohol denial, to facing his addiction.
An excellent movie, a good story line, with drama and plenty of excitement. I predict Denzel Washington will be nominated for an Oscar…for sure.
