If you’re looking for a non stop action thriller, this flick is just the ticket, exactly what you’re looking for. It is not a serious thinking movie, for which you need to concentrate. It will not win any awards, but most of all it will not bore you. What it will do is keep you tense for an hour and a half.
The title refers to the extra charge for fast delivery, by bicycle messengers. There are over a thousand of these messenger in N.Y.C. If you have ever been to N.Y.C. chances are you have seen one of these bicycle couriers, weaving in and out of traffic, defying death.
The fellow with the reputation of being the very best and fastest courier in N.Y.C. is ‘Whiley’ (Joseph Gordon Levitt) His fellow messengers think he has a death wish, a guy who doesn’t fear for his life. Whiley is not cavalier, but very thoughtful as he snakes through traffic at 50 mph, on a light weight steel frame bike, with one gear and no breaks. To avoid being hit, Whiley maps out the next move he will make very quickly in his mind.
Nima (Jamie Chung) the roommate
of Whiley’s girl friend, knows Whiley is the fastest courier, she asks him to deliver a very important envelope before 7 pm. Whiley picks up the envelope
and is followed by Bob Monday (Michael Shannon) a very bad, crooked cop, in desperate
need of the envelope. He is hell bent the envelope not being delivered. This bad cop is a loser, with a gambling problem, and is in fear for his life. He owes thousands to the Chinese lenders.
Watching Whiley dodging his pursuers, as he races from uptown to down, to deliver the envelope by 7 pm. while avoiding not only traffic, but Bob Monday..and another policeman on a bicycle, was very exciting, and worth the price of admission.
This is a serious movie, with a good story line. The bike scenes leave you riveted and cringing as the riders quickly maneuver through busy traffic, avoiding pedestrians, taxis, buses etc…I went to this movie with NO expectations, and walked out pleasantly surprised, and thoroughly entertained.
