This movie is a heart warming fantacy story, about parenthood, and a magical little boy. For those who believe in miracles, will love this film Those who do not…see it anyway, you’ll reget, if you do not. The story begins with Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Gardner and Joel Edgerton) in an adoption office. They are a devoted, happily married, but childless couple. They have tried everything to have a baby, even tried adoption. Cindy and Jim are telling the two new adoption
officials their story. In flash backs we learn their mysterious story.
One night while enjoying a bottle of wine, Jim and Cindy
wrote what they’d want in a perfect child, on slips of paper. They gathered the papers and placed the lists in a box, then buried the box in their garden. During the night Cindy and Jim were awakened by a sudden and violent thunder storm that soaked only their garden. They went to investigate, and found a 10 yr old boy, covered in mud, with heart shaped leaves growing from his legs. The sweet little boy introduces himself as Timothy (C.J. Adams) and addresses them Mom & Dad. There is no explanation for how this happened. Besides being different, at odd times, Timothy would raise his arms heavenly, tree like, and face the sun.
A teenage girl named Joni (Odeya Rush) becomes Timothy’s best
and only friend. She rides around on her bicycle, her basket is full of bright leaves. As autumn rolls around, the leaves on Tim’s legs slowly begin to fall off. Each time he tried to tell his parents, he would be interrupted, however he finally got a chance to tell his secret to Joni.
There is a sub plot to the story, concerning Stanleyville’s pencil factory, the town’s main support. Due to computers, “The Pencil Capital of the World” is about to close. To stop the threat of closing, something had to be done. Tim suggest to his parents, they have the ‘know how’ to come up with an idea for a new kind of pencil and save the factory.
For those of you who believe in miracles, and wish hard enough, miracles can happen, you will love this movie. For those who do not…see the movie anyway, you will not be sorry, and bring your children as well . If you believe a stuffed Teddy Bear can come to life and talk, as we witnessed in the movie “Ted” why not this film.
